Research Interests
Interdisciplinary by nature and education, I have broad interests, but as of late I have been engaging most with 19th Century Russian literature, theology, history, translation, and 20th Century German and French theory. Current concerns of mine include Tolstoyan authenticity; Nabokovian loneliness; ostranenie; how Russian authors have situated themselves in relation to the West; love; translation and the Wesen and origin of language; the issue of identity and difference in John's Gospel; how art, philosophy, and "religion" respond to and define one another; and the soul/body binary in literature and theory.
